Our Wits That Make Us Men

A stylistically unique rock band from day one, the members of Our Wits That Make Us Men have been been singing, performing, and playing in sync as if they’d been together their entire musical careers. Throughout the course of the band’s union, they have won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life; performing at a variety of venues, making loads of public appearances, all the while recording new music.

The band all started back in 2014 while guitarist Matt Billy went to an open mic night his freshman year at Ramapo College of New Jersey.  There, he saw vocalist Dean performing spoken word poetry while playing drums.  His powerful lyricism and unique sense of performance immediately caught Matt’s attention and made him eager to write music with Dean.  Soon enough Nagee, the former singer of Ambary Lake, was put on bass and drums was taken over by powerhouse Mark Boulanger.  Pulling together influences like Dillinger Escape Plan, Deftones, and La Dispute while creating a ambient sonic soundscape is unheard of, but the band pulled it off with their most recent release.

“The Manifesto” was released April 4th and this highly ambitious release demonstrates that they went all out for this album.  With over a year and a half of recording and over eight months of mixing & mastering, this 17 track album proves it was well worth the wait.  The ambient guitars create a space for the listener which blends perfectly with the slow attack of the rhythm section.  The lyrics demonstrate a very show-not-tell style of writing which is rare in music these days (especially in the indie world).  Even when the songs break out into break neck speed power chords, blasting drum fills, and scratchy screams, the listener can’t help but be continuously drawn.

While the band is just starting out, they quickly proved that in the indie music scene, they are a force to be reckon with.
